I believe Joe passed October 20, 2016 from prostrate cancer.  He is greatly missed by all that knew him.

Joe Borden was an extraordinarily sweet man. He only attended Blanchet freshman and sophomore years, then finished at Lincoln, as did many of his close friends from St Benedict's (a group of boys often known as the Benny's Boys).

Those of you who attended Christ the King may remember Chris Murphy. She and Joe were quite the item freshman year!

I understand Joe's career included construction, shipyards, Seattle Center, Goodwill Games, affordable housing, even work with the Archdiocese. Although occasionally a 'trouble-maker' in his youth, he grew to be something of a Renaissance Man.

He was married for 18 years and had three daughters as well as three grandchildren.

In the summer of 2016, several months before he passed away (on October 19 2016), Joe organized a "reunion" of sorts, inviting his friends from St Benedict's to his home on Capital Hill overlooking Lake Union. He knew he'd be dying soon, but he still looked really good and chose not to tell anyone about his cancer. We (I attended as a date of my favorite Benny's Boy) enjoyed a tremendous turnout, wonderful food, and everyone seemed to have a great time. He didn't want anyone to feel sad; he wanted to leave his friends happy.
